The Elder Conservatorium of Music, also known as "The Con", is Australia's senior academy of music and is located in the centre of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It is named in honour of its benefactor, Sir Thomas Elder (1818–1897).

Fourteen years after the establishment of the Chair, the Elder Conservatorium of Music was set up in 1898 following a bequest of £65,000 to the University of Adelaide on the death of Sir Thomas Elder, £20,000 of which was to the School of Music. Professor Ives became the Director,with dual responsibility for the theory and practice of music.
