He continued to tour as a solo artist, and between 1946 and 1949 recorded his last sides, for Mercury Records, with the bassist Israel Crosby, and took on the position of staff pianist with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra.

Although his origins were modest, his powerful piano style would take him from Chicago barrooms to Carnegie Hall to the White House.
6. Feb. 2020 · Like fellow boogie-woogie pianists Meade Lux Lewis and Peter Johnson, Albert Ammons made his name at the famous From Spirituals to Swing concert organized by John Hammond in Carnegie Hall on 23 December 1938.
