- John Bonham. Auch John Bonham wurde kaum älter: Im September 1980 starb er nach exzessivem Alkoholmissbrauch – im Alter von nur 32 Jahren. Schon früh von den wichtigsten Jazz-Größen inspiriert, war der Engländer ein weiterer Autodidakt, der sich die eine oder andere Spieltechnik bei Leuten wie Gene Krupa, Max Roach und Buddy Rich abgeguckt hatte.
- Keith Moon. Der aus London stammende The Who-Drummer Keith Moon war erst 31, als er im September 1978 an einer Überdosis starb. Bekannt für sein ausschweifendes Verhalten und seine vielen Exzesse, galt der Brite, der auch mit Jimmy Page und John Lennon gearbeitet hat, an dem Punkt jedoch schon längst als einer der größten und einflussreichsten Schlagzeuger der Rockgeschichte.
- Neil Peart. Wie ein paar seiner Kollegen, die ebenfalls hier aufgelistet sind, landete auch der kanadische Schlagzeuger und Songwriter Neil Peart, geboren am 12.
