Ab Mitte der 1980er-Jahre war er vorwiegend als Sessionmusiker für Filmmusiken tätig, u. a. mit Mark Isham. Zu hören war er auch auf Fred Lonberg-Holms Stirrup+6 Album The Avondale Addition (2020) und Mars Williams ’ An Ayler Xmas Vol. 5 (2021).
Maunu's longtime involvement with composer Mark Isham has encouraged his experimental side, leading to Peter's many contributions in film music. His solo album "Warm Sound in a Gray Field" is a showcase for his adventurous compositional style.
Group 87. December 22, 1987. Category: Discography. Group 87 was my very first adventure into the world of big-time record making. It was a band that I formed with my two best friends – Peter Maunu and Patrick O’Hearn – in the beginning of my exploration of instrumental fusion music.
In 1979, O'Hearn teamed with trumpet player Mark Isham and guitarist Peter Maunu to form Group 87. They only produced two LPs— Group 87 in 1980, and A Career in Dada Processing in 1984. Isham and Maunu would appear as collaborators on several of O'Hearn's subsequent solo releases.

GROUP 87 were a trio who released two studio albums in the eighties this being the self titled debut from 1980. A trio of session musicians including one I know in Mark Isham playing synths, keys and trumpet. Peter Maunu adds guitar, keys and violin while Patrick O'Hearn adds bass and double bass.
