They were formed in County Kerry in 2002 at the All-Ireland Fleadh although the original four members of the band hail from County Antrim and County Londonderry in Northern Ireland. Bio: Rosetta Stone began in 1973 as a schoolboy band formed by brothers Damian, Terry and Colin McKee and their friend Ian Mitchell. They went through a variety of names (including Albatross and Bang) and by 1975 were known as the Young City Stars, who were popular in local clubs.

Emboldened by the experience, Beoga focused on creating attention-grabbing hooks rather than exploratory instrumentals. As accordionist Damian McKee notes, “We were making music like we’d never done before. It was like starting again from scratch.”
