Bart Smits (born 17 March 1972 in Oss) is a Dutch heavy metal singer. He was the original singer in The Gathering, and he sang on their first album Always..., released in 1992. The following year he left them to form Wish. After one full-length album and four EPs, the band split up in 2003.

Founded by brothers Hans and René Rutten and vocalist Bart Smits, The Gathering formed in the city of Oss in 1989. Soon after they were joined by Hugo Prinsen Geerligs, Jelmer Wiersma and Frank Boeijen to complete their first line-up.
The Gathering is a Dutch alternative rock band, founded in 1989 by brothers Hans and René Rutten and vocalist Bart Smits in the small city of Oss, North Brabant.
