In 1963 and 1964, a BBC 1 show The Hoot'nanny Show, recorded in Edinburgh, was broadcast. Two albums with the same title were released, with contributions from Archie Fisher, Barney McKenna (before he joined The Dubliners), and The Corries.
Hootenanny was an American musical variety television show broadcast on ABC from April 1963 to September 1964. The program was hosted by Jack Linkletter.

The producers of the new BBC show went about hiring a regular group and build the show around them, but despite it being recorded at an Edinburgh jazz club a Scottish folk group The Corries Folk Trio and Paddie Bell were chosen with local and visiting acts added to each show.
