Sonny Stitt on Burnin' proves this in how he manipulates the alto sax on these twelve bar blues tunes (to my ear, at least) in a ways stronger than Bird's because of his lack of concern for phraseology and shunning of rhythmic ambiguities that Bird was so inclined to do.
