John Mayhew (27 March 1947 – 26 March 2009) was an English musician, best known for his brief tenure as the drummer of the progressive rock band Genesis. He replaced the band's previous drummer, John Silver, in August 1969, and was himself replaced in August 1970 by Phil Collins.
John Mayhew was a drummer who joined Genesis in 1969 and contributed to their second album, Trespass, before leaving in 1970. He died in 2009 after a long career in music and furniture making.
29. Jan. 2022 · Genesis in early 1970. At the beginning of 1970, Genesis were writing and rehearsing new music for their second album. Their debut album * had failed to chart and they had quit their contract with producer Jonathan King and the Decca label. The new songs were more adventurous and experimental and far from the pop tunes of their first album.
3. Feb. 2023 · Then he left, and ceded the gig to John Mayhew. In 1970, after the recording of the band's second album, "Trespass," guitarist Anthony Phillips left the band. Looking to restart the band in the wake of this blow, Genesis parted ways with Mayhew because he wasn't a good fit and placed ads seeking a new drummer in "Melody Maker."
Trespass is the second studio album by the English rock band Genesis. It was released on 23 October 1970 on Charisma Records, and is their last album with original guitarist Anthony Phillips and their only album with drummer John Mayhew . Genesis turned professional in autumn 1969, and began to rehearse intensely and play live shows.
