Carlos Miguel Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 14th Duke of Alba, GE (19 May 1794 – 7 October 1835) was a Spanish aristocrat. [1] Biography. Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1794, he was a descendant of James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick and through him, the exiled King James II of England & VII of Scotland.

In 1802, María Cayetana de Silva, 13th Duchess of Alba, died without any issue and her titles were inherited by a relative, Carlos Miguel Fitz-James Stuart, 14th Duke of Alba. Thus, the dukedom of Alba passed to the senior branch of the House of Fitz-James Stuart, which took over the patrimony of the House of Alba. [citation needed]
Fitz-James Stuart ist eine illegitime Nebenlinie der britischen Stuart-Dynastie. Das Geschlecht zählt zum europäischen Hochadel und geht zurück auf die Kinder von James, Duke of York (dem späteren König Jakob II.), mit der Mätresse Arabella Churchill .
In 1951 (at the age of 2), he became the 14th Duke of Huéscar – a title which was ceded to him by his grandfather, Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart, 17th Duke of Alba and 13th Duke of Huéscar. He is a direct descendant of James II of England.
28. März 2023 · From this marriage, she had six children, with her eldest son, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, assuming the title of 19th Duke of Alba when she died. Later, in the 1950s, Picasso wanted to paint her because Goya had painted one of her ancestors.
The painting´s name derives from the pomegranate held by the Virgin, which prefigures Christ´s sacrifice and resurrection. Acquired in Florence in 1817 by Carlos Miguel Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 14th Duke of Alba de Tormes, it remained in the family since that date.
