  5. Helen was a popular vocalist of the 1940s Big Band era. She began her career touring with Jimmy Richards' nine-piece orchestra and joined Jimmy Dorsey's orchestra as lead female singer in 1939. With Dorsey she recorded hits such as "Green Eyes", "All of Me", "Tangerine" and was voted best female vocalist in 1940.

  6. Vocalist. (1920 - 1993) Helen O’Connell was born in Lima, Ohio, and is best remembered for her role as female vocalist in the Jimmy Dorsey band (1939-1943). It was there that she and Bob Eberly gained fame with a number of Dorsey, tempo-switching, hit records including “Amapola,” “ Green Eyes ,” “Yours,” and “ Tangerine .”.
