Gotti musste später oft klarstellen, dass das Wort murder nicht für einen Mord stehen, sondern lediglich die künstlerische Überlegenheit des Labels symbolisieren soll. 1999 kam Ja Rule dann im Gegensatz zu seinen Bandkollegen 0-1 und Chris Black aus seinem Deal mit Blunt/TVT Records raus und verschrieb zusammen mit Blackchild und Tah Murda als erste Künstler bei Murder Inc. Recordings.
