Seine Mutter Phyllis Hockin (1941–2005) war 46 Jahre mit Walter Gretzky verheiratet und starb im Dezember 2005 an Lungenkrebs. Zwei seiner Brüder, Brent (13 NHL-Spiele) und Keith (vorwiegend in Minor Leagues ), waren ebenfalls als professionelle Eishockeyspieler aktiv.
