Blue Note. Anita Denise Baker (born January 26, 1958) [1] is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for her soulful ballads, particularly from the height of the quiet storm period in the 1980s. [1] Starting her career in the late 1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, Baker released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983.
Leben. Anita Baker begann ihre Sängerlaufbahn in einem Gospelchor im Alter von zwölf Jahren. Ihre Vorbilder damals waren Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan und Nancy Wilson, die ihren Gesangsstil auch heute noch deutlich hörbar beeinflussten. 1976 ersetzte sie Caroline Crawford in der Detroiter Band Chapter 8 und nahm mit ihr auch Schallplatten für Ariola auf.
