Often known by his title Ibn al-Hanafiyya, [1] Muhammad was born to Khawla bint Ja'far, a woman from the Banu Hanifa tribe, and Ali ibn Abi Talib, a cousin of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Ali is also recognized as the fourth Rashidun caliph ( r. 656–661) and the first Shia imam. [2] .
Muḥammad b. al-Ḥanafīyya (Arabic: محمد بن الحنفية) (b. 16 /637-8 - d. 81 /700-1), the son of Ali b. Abi Talib (a) and Khawla al-Hanafiyya (the daughter of Ja'far b. Qays), was among the first group of Tabi'un.
