The Morton Air Academy was one of many in California that trained men to fly on a Ryan or Stearman aircraft. Morton was located at Blythe Municipal Airport. In addition to the Academy, an Army Air Base was established at the Airfield.

21. Juli 2016 · That's what I thought when our rental car came to a sluggish halt in the middle of what appeared to be a wash in the Mojave Desert, still on the California side of the Colorado River. We were looking for the Morton Air Academy, one of our checkpoints on the Rental Car Rally.

Aug. 2023 · By the end of 1942, three new airfields (Thermal, Rice and Desert Center Army Airfields) were built to support the Desert Training Center desert maneuvers, and Blythe AAB wasn't needed for the Army's desert exercises. Blythe's new role was changed to the training of heavy bombardment combat crews before they were deployed overseas.
