    Cahill war 2007 Teil der englischen U-21-Nationalmannschaft und am 6. Juni 2009 wurde er aufgrund einer Verletzung Rio Ferdinands von Englands Nationaltrainer Fabio Capello für das WM-Qualifikationsspiel gegen Kasachstan erstmals in den Kader der A-Nationalmannschaft berufen.
