In 1965, Aurelio Peccei, an Italian industrialist, made a speech that proved inspirational to Alexander King, the Scottish Head of Science at the OECD. The two found that they shared a profound concern for the long-term future of humanity and the planet, what they termed the modern ‘predicament of mankind’.
Aurelio Peccei è stato un imprenditore italiano. Manager della FIAT, partecipò alla resistenza, fu imprenditore in Italia e all'estero. Nel 1968 riunì a Roma alcuni studiosi e insieme costituirono il Club di Roma. Da FIAT passò nel 1964 alla Olivetti, dove venne eletto Amministratore Delegato.
Die Geschichte beginnt schon Ende der 50er Jahre. Auroelio Peccei’s Sohn, Roberto, erzählte mir, sein Vater sei bereits damals von einem Gefühl geplagt worden. Einem Gefühl, dass die Menschheit sich auf einen Entwicklungspfad – einen Irrweg – begeben hatte, der kein gutes Ende nehmen würde.
