Edward "Ned" Beale McLean (1889 – July 28, 1941) was the publisher and owner of The Washington Post newspaper, from 1916 until 1933. His wife, Evalyn Walsh McLean, was a prominent Washington socialite. McLean was also a thoroughbred racehorse owner and purchaser of the Hope Diamond, which was traditionally believed to carry a curse.

12. Mai 2024 · 11 May 2024 / Kimberly. Today I read a little about the life of Edward Beale McLean (1889 – 1941), the last man to buy the famed Hope Diamond. McLean, who was more often known as E.B. or Ned, came from a wealthy family. The city of McLean, Virginia is named for his father, John Roll McLean.
Three days later, an enterprising Associated Press correspondent tracked down Edward “Ned” Beale McLean, erstwhile owner and former publisher of the Post, at a Montreal hospital, where, as the reporter charitably put it, he was “undergoing treatment.” One year earlier, his name had been stripped from the Post ’s masthead.
