Former Spartan All-American Harlon Barnett, who coaches the secondary, is entering his 15th season overall on the Spartan defensive staff in 2023. He was named acting head coach by Vice President/Director of Athletics Alan Haller on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023.

Harlon Barnett is the associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator for Michigan State's secondary, where he mentors one of the top secondaries in the nation. He played and coached at MSU as a defensive back, earning All-American honors in 1989, and has coached seven NFL draft picks and three All-Americans.
