Tam-Lin, a closet drama written by Elaine Lee and illustrated by Charles Vess, appears in The Book of Ballads and Sagas, Vess's collection of adaptations of traditional songs, mostly into comics form.
Plot and images. Janet meets Tom and Mickie. The movie set the action in late 1960s, primarily in Scotland (filming took place in '68), where a wealthy older woman, Michaela, surrounds herself with young, bohemian artists, taking in those who show up on her doorstep, and taking one, Tom, a young, penniless artist, as her lover.
Based upon the Celtic legend Tam Lin, a young man is bewitched by a beautiful, heartless, aging sorceress to become her lover. When his attention wanders to a lovely girl, he is doomed to ritual sacrifice by the sorceress.
A rich witch (Ava Gardner) surrounds herself with admirers, one (Ian McShane) of whom unwisely strays with a vicar's daughter (Stephanie Beacham).
