W pierwszych dniach maja 1942 r. do Sobiboru zaczęły docierać pierwsze masowe transporty z powiatu puławskiego, krasnostawskiego, chełmskiego i zamojskiego, a miesiąc później z hrubieszowskiego. Ofiary były przywożone wagonami towarowymi (w jednym stłaczano ok. 70–100 osób).
