Die Handlung des Films basiert auf der Kurzgeschichte Die Pralinenschachtel von Agatha Christie.
•Die gesamte Rahmenhandlung der Geschichte wurde verändert: während in der Vorlage Poirot seinem Freund Arthur Hastings an einem stürmischen Abend in London den Fall erläutert, begleitet er im Film Inspektor Japp nach Brüssel, dem dort eine Auszeichnung verliehen werden soll. Bei einem Abendessen berichtet Poirot aus seiner Vergangenheit.
•Aus dem Engänder John Wilson wurde im Film Gaston Beaujeu.
•Paul Déroulard wird im Film als Verfechter eines geeinten Belgiens und als Freund des Deutschen Kaiserreichs dargestellt. In der Vorlage erfährt man nur von seiner anti-katholischen Politik.
•Virginie Mesnard geht am Ende nicht ins Kloster, sondert gründet im Film eine Familie. Es wird angedeutet, dass Poirot sich zu ihr hingezogen fühlt - den Anstecker, den sie ihm schenkt, sieht man immer wieder innerhalb der Serie an seinem Revers.
Der Drehbuchautor zeigt große Kenntnis des Werks von Agatha Christie: Poirot erwähnt in der Episode den Falschmünzerskandal Abercrombie, der einmal kurz im Roman Das fehlende Glied in der Kette erwähnt wird.
Die Pralinenschachtel (The Chocolate Box) Staffel 5, Folge 6. jetzt ansehen. Poirot kehrt nach über 20 Jahren wieder in seine Heimatstadt Brüssel zurück, um Chief Inspector Japp bei einer Würdigung seiner Arbeit durch die belgische Polizei zur Seite zu stehen.
