Barbara Stanwyck played Oakley in the film Annie Oakley (1935). The Irving Berlin Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun (1946) is loosely based on her life. The original stage production starred Ethel Merman, who also starred in the 1966 revival. The 1950 film version of the musical starred Betty Hutton and Howard Keel.
