In 1953, President Eisenhower declared gay men and lesbians to be a threat to the security of the country and therefore unfit for government service.
The Lavender Scare, directed by Josh Howard and narrated by Glenn Close, is a documentary film that recounts the events of the Lavender Scare. David K. Johnson is part of the project, as the film is based on his book.
