His professional career as a 5-string banjoist began in 1953 when he joined Smokey Graves & His Blue Star Boys, who had a regular show at a radio station in Crewe, Virginia.

21. Juni 2018 · He was inducted into the Bill Monroe Hall of Fame (in 2005). In 2012 he was presented with the Washington Monument Award. Two years later he was presented with the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Music. Adcock has been a board member for the IBMA and the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music.
