Big Band singer, a tenor; Leonard started off with Axel Stordahl and Joe Bauer in a group called the Three Esquires that appeared in venues in the greater New York metropolitan area; he joined the Tommy Dorsey band in 1937 and recorded over two hundred songs with Dorsey, including Irving Berlin's "Marie," for which he is best known.
