Geoffrey Downes (born 25 August 1952) is an English keyboardist who gained fame as a member of the new wave group the Buggles with Trevor Horn, the progressive rock band Yes, and the supergroup Asia. Born in Stockport , Downes moved to London to pursue a music career.
12. Juli 2023 · Besides Howe, the longest-serving member of the current Yes lineup is keyboardist Geoff Downes, who initially joined in 1980. When Yes temporarily broke up a year later, he formed Asia with Howe, along with former King Crimson/U.K. bassist-vocalist John Wetton and ex-ELP drummer Carl Palmer.
Geoff Downes is beyond doubt one of the foremost keyboard players of rock. His textures have always pushed boundaries, with signature synth sounds. Geoff’s Hammond playing is also world renowned. His award winning songwriting crosses genres, from pure pop to classical prog. His love of music is as fervent now as it was in his teens.
