Billy Harper is a tenor saxophonist influenced by Coltrane and Dorham, who played with Evans, Blakey, Roach and others. He recorded for European labels and taught at Rutgers.
Billy Harper tritt weiterhin international auf: auf der Jazz Jamboree in Warschau lernte ihn der junge polnische Trompeter Pjotr Wojtasik kennen, der später Mitglied seiner Band wurde. 2000 gab er ein Konzert in Gewandhaus in Leipzig. Daneben unterrichtet Harper an mehreren High Schools Improvisation und lehrt am Livingston College und der Rutgers University.
