Abbas al-Musawi (/ ə ˈ b ɑː s əl m uː s ɑː w iː /; Arabic: عباس الموسوي; 26 October 1952 – 16 February 1992) was an influential Lebanese Shia cleric, a co-founder and secretary-general of Hezbollah. He was killed by the Israel Defense Forces in 1992.
ʿAbbās al-Mūsawī was a Lebanese Shīʿite Muslim cleric and secretary-general (1991–92) of the militant Hezbollah (“Party of God”) movement. Mūsawī studied at a Shīʿite madrasah (religious college) in Al-Najaf, Iraq, where he was strongly influenced by the teachings of Iranian cleric Ayatollah.
