Opechancanough (* vermutlich in zweiter Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts; † um 1644 oder 1646) war Häuptling der Pamunkey-Indianer und später Häuptling der Powhatan-Konföderation. Er war der Bruder oder Halbbruder von Wahunsonacock (besser bekannt als Powhatan).
Opechancanough (/ oʊ p ə ˈ tʃ æ n k ə n oʊ /; 1554–1646) was paramount chief of the Powhatan Confederacy in present-day Virginia from 1618 until his death. He had been a leader in the confederacy formed by his older brother Powhatan , from whom he inherited the paramountcy.

22. Dez. 2021 · Opechancanough was the paramount chief of Tsenacomoco, a political alliance of Virginia Indians, who led attacks against the English colonists in 1622 and 1644. He may have been related to Powhatan, the chief at the time of the Jamestown landing in 1607, and he was captured and died in English custody in 1646.
17. Nov. 2021 · Taking over from his brother, Opechancanough established himself as the chiefdom’s de facto ruler and began planning a long-term strategy to expel the English from his territories.
Acht Jahre später überfielen Pamunkey-Indianer unter Sachem Opechancanough rund um Jamestown im James City County Farmen und Wohnstätten. Mit seinen Kriegern zerstörte er über siebzig englische Siedlungen. Von den mehr als 1.200 Kolonisten wurden 347 getötet.
Opechancanough war Powhatans Bruder und nach dem Ableben des unschlüssigen Powhatan (1618) kam es im Jahre 1622 zum offenen Kampf.
