Lewis Lichtenstein Strauss (/ ˈ s t r ɔː z / STRAWZ; January 31, 1896 – January 21, 1974) was an American government official, businessman, philanthropist and naval officer. He was one of the original members of the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in 1946 and he served as the commission's chair in the 1950s.

Lewis Strauss (1896-1974) was an American financier and government official who served as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Strauss was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He had hoped to study physics, but his family did not have the money to send him to college.
