23. Mai 2018 · John Endecott was one of the early leaders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, who came to the New World in 1628 as a member of a small group of Puritans. He served as temporary governor, military leader, and commissioner, and was known for his strict moral and spiritual codes, his harsh treatment of dissenters and rebels, and his role in the Pequot War.

John Endecott was a radical Puritan who removed the red cross from the flag at Salem in 1634, offending the colonial leaders. He later became governor of Massachusetts during the English Civil War and the Puritan rebellion.
