Karl Gustav Adolf Knies (* 29. März 1821 in Marburg; † 3. August 1898 in Heidelberg) war ein deutscher Ökonom. Bekannt wurde er als Autor von Die politische Ökonomie vom geschichtlichen Standpunkte, einer methodologischen Abhandlung über die Historische Schule der Nationalökonomie.

Karl Gustav Adolf Knies (sometimes spelled Carl Knies) was one of the leading members of the "older generation" of the German Historical School. Knies was involved in the planning of a Polytechnic School in Cassel, but political denouements after 1848 led to his temporary exile.
Seit 1841 studierte er in Marburg Geschichte und Staatswissenschaften, hörte aber auch evangelische Theologie und Philologie. Er erwarb 1844 die Befähigung für das Lehramt an Gelehrtenschulen. 1846 wurde er in Marburg zum Dr. phil. promoviert und zugleich als Privatdozent zugelassen.
Knies is one of the acknowledged founders of the Older German Historical School, and yet in recent years several writers have described his 1855 essay as seminal in the evolution of marginal utility analysis.
