The third child and younger daughter of the Count of Barcelona and Princess María de las Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, she was born in Rome where the Spanish Royal Family resided in exile, and grew up in Portugal.

März 2020 · When her cousin, Manfredo de Bourbon, 1st Duke of Hernani died without any known heirs, he willed his ducal title to Infanta Margarita, of which her brother, then the Spanish king, granted this request upon Manfredo's death in 1979. Her brother also granted her the title Duchess of Soria.
