She was the eldest daughter of Alfred the Great, king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex, and his wife Ealhswith. Æthelflæd was born around 870 at the height of the Viking invasions of England.
Æthelflæd von Damerham (auch Athelflede, Ethelfled, bl. 10. Jahrhundert) war die zweite Frau des englischen Königs Edmund I. und damit englische Königin von etwa 944 bis zu Edmunds Tod im Jahr 946. Aethelflaed (died June 12, 918, Tamworth, England) was an Anglo-Saxon ruler of Mercia in England and the founder of Gloucester Abbey. The eldest child of King Alfred the Great, she helped her brother Edward the Elder, king of the West Saxons (reigned 899–924), in conquering the Danish armies occupying eastern England.
