Nach der Ermordung von Faisal wurde Chalid ibn Abd al-Aziz König (1975–1982), wobei die Regierung aber von Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz (1982–2005) geführt wurde. Unter ihm wurden 1977 die Erdöl- und Erdgasfirmen in Saudi-Arabien verstaatlicht.
