Armand Borel (21 May 1923 – 11 August 2003) was a Swiss mathematician, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and was a permanent professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, United States from 1957 to 1993.

Armand Borel, an internationally recognized mathematician whose work was fundamental to the development and formation of modern mathematics, died on August 11 in Princeton, New Jersey. Professor Borel, who was 80, was a Professor Emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study, where he had been a member of the Faculty since 1957.
The objective is the determination of the cohomology with coefficients in the integers (torsion included) of compact Lie groups and of their classifying spaces. Borel uses Leray’s theory, and sharpens it by proving a difficult result of the type: “exterior algebra (fiber) =⇒ polynomial algebra (base).’’.
