Akira Yoshino (吉野 彰, Yoshino Akira, born 30 January 1948) is a Japanese chemist. He is a fellow of Asahi Kasei Corporation and a professor at Meijo University in Nagoya. He created the first safe, production-viable lithium-ion battery, which became used widely in cellular phones and notebook computers.
Dr. Yoshino invented and patented the first commercially viable lithium-ion battery in 1985, based on polyacetylene and carbon materials. He talks about his research journey, the challenges and the role of patents in developing the technology.

Der japanische Ingenieur Akira Yoshino wird zusammen mit den Wissenschaftlern John Goodenough und Stanley Whittingham mit dem diesjährigen Chemienobelpreis ausgezeichnet. Dies gab gestern die Königlich-Schwedische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Stockholm bekannt.
