Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA FRS (13 April 1769 – 7 January 1830) was an English portrait painter and the fourth president of the Royal Academy. A child prodigy, he was born in Bristol and began drawing in Devizes, where his father was an innkeeper at the Bear Hotel in the Market Square.
Thomas Edward Lawrence, CB, DSO, bekannt als Lawrence von Arabien, war ein britischer Offizier, Archäologe, Geheimagent und Schriftsteller. Bekannt wurde Lawrence vor allem durch seine Beteiligung an dem von den Briten forcierten Aufstand der Araber gegen das Osmanische Reich während des Ersten Weltkrieges.

1769 - 1830. Lawrence was the leading British portrait painter of the early 19th century, portraying most of the important personalities of the day in his polished and flattering style. He was a child prodigy and largely self-taught; at the age of 10 he was making accomplished portraits in crayon.
