Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (born 26 November 1931) is an Argentine activist, community organizer, painter, writer and sculptor. He was the recipient of the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize for his opposition to Argentina's last civil-military dictatorship (1976–1983), during which he was detained, tortured, and held without trial for 14 months.
Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (Buenos Aires, 26 de noviembre de 1931) es un activista, profesor, escultor y pintor argentino, destacado como defensor de los derechos humanos y del derecho de libre autodeterminación de los pueblos, defensor de la resistencia proponente de la teología de la liberación.
Adolfo Pérez Esquivel was born in Buenos Aires in 1931. After training as an architect and sculptor he was appointed Professor of Architecture. In 1974 he relinquished his teaching post in order to devote all his time and energy to the work of co-ordinating the activities of the various non-violent elements in Latin America.
