Summary and Study Guide. Overview. Published in 2010, Tom Franklin’s Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter is a literary crime novel centered around two unsolved murders that connect past and present. The novel follows Silas Jones, a black constable in a small town in Mississippi, and Larry Ott, the white suspect in a decades-old, unsolved murder.
Wallace is fascinated and obsessed with the crimes he thinks Larry committed. He betrayed Larry by burying Tina’s body in his hunting cabin and attempting to kill Larry, hiding behind the zombie mask so he does not have to look him in the eyes. In this case there can be no atonement, as Wallace later kills himself.
