David Shire war als erster Musiker in die Arbeiten an dem Soundtrack involviert. Er war für den Score verantwortlich und komponierte und produzierte für das Album die Titel „Manhattan Skyline“ und „Salsation“, sowie die Adaption von Eine Nacht auf dem kahlen Berge von Modest Mussorgsky , „Night on Disco Mountain“.
26. Sept. 2019 · In den Siebzigerjahren waren Synthesizer in der Musik allgegenwärtig. Ursprünglich war der gesamte Soundtrack zu dem Kriegsfilm „Apocalypse Now“ mit dem damals noch neuen Instrument geplant.
5. Juli 2021 · Einen Academy Award gewann Shire in der Sparte «Best Music, Original Song» (THE PROMISE, 1979 mit «I’ll Never Say Good-bye») und wurde im selben Jahr für den Song «It Goes Like it Goes» aus NORMA RAE (1979) nominiert. Für SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1979) gewann Shire einen Grammy.
