Marilyn McCoo (born September 30, 1943) [1] is an American singer, actress, and television presenter, who is best known for being the lead female vocalist in the group the 5th Dimension as well as hosting the 1980s music television show Solid Gold .

Singer and actress Marilyn McCoo was born on September 30, 1943 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her parents, Mary and Waymon McCoo, were both doctors and moved the family to Los Angeles, California when McCoo was seven years old.
An extremely successful female recording artist, Marilyn’s combined record sales, as a solo performer, a member of The 5th Dimension, and a part of a duo with husband, Billy Davis, Jr., ranks her among the top 10 black female vocalists of the “rock era.” This places her among such greats as Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight.
