The 1996 International Touring Car Championship was the thirteenth season of premier German touring car championship and also only first and final season under the moniker of International Touring Car Championship. It was for FIA Class 1 Touring Cars and it was contested by Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and Opel.
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft ( DTM) was a touring car racing series held from 1984 to 1996. Originally based in Germany, it held additional rounds elsewhere in Europe and later worldwide.
Die FIA-Tourenwagen-Weltmeisterschaft war eine von der FIA ausgeschriebene Weltmeisterschaftsserie für Tourenwagen in den Jahren 1987 sowie zwischen 2005 und 2017. The 1996 ITC Nürburgring-1 round was the second round of the 1996 International Touring Car Championship season. It took place on 12 May at the Nürburgring. Jörg van Ommen won the first race, starting from pole position, driving a Mercedes C-Class, and Manuel Reuter gained the second one, driving an Opel Calibra V6 4x4.
