Academic Overview. Baltimore Polytechnic Institute is a city-wide high school offering college preparatory and advanced college preparatory curricula emphasizing the study of science, mathematics, and engineering. Each June of the students' high school career, their academic records are reviewed.
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1883 when Joshua Plaskitt petitioned the city authorities to establish an engineering school. The school was called the Baltimore Manual Training School and opened with 60 students in a building on Courtland Street.
