Harlech. Harlech ( Welsh pronunciation: [ˈharlɛχ] ⓘ) is a seaside resort and community in Gwynedd, North Wales, and formerly in the historic county of Merionethshire. It lies on Tremadog Bay in the Snowdonia National Park. Before 1966, it belonged to the Meirionydd District of the 1974 County of Gwynedd.
Bekannt ist die Stadt für Harlech Castle, eine von König Eduard I. nach der Eroberung von Wales errichtete Burg, die heute zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO gehört. Die Stadt entstand als Siedlung im Schutz der Burg. Von 1878 bis 1886 verkehrte die Harlech-Tramway -Pferdebahn nach Westen zum Strand. Bis 1974 gehörte die Stadt zu Merionethshire.
