Jowe Head (born Stephen Bird) is a British guitarist, singer, and visual artist, who was a member of Swell Maps before joining the Television Personalities. He has also released a large amount of material as a solo artist and as leader of groups such as Househunters and Palookas.
Jowe Head is a musician and artist from the Midlands of England, now living in Hackney, in east London. He started his musical career in his home town of Solihull with various school friends in 1972, a project that came to be known as Swell Maps.

In Swell Maps, Jowe was mainly responsible for the bass-guitar parts, but also contributed peculiar songs and unusual instrumental pieces. He also sang lead vocals on some of the material. Since Swell Maps broke up in 1980, Jowe has made many solo records, and collaborated with a wide range of musicians.
