Julio José Frenk Mora (born December 20, 1953) is a Mexican physician and sociologist. He has been the president of the University of Miami since 2015. He is the University of Miami's first Hispanic and native Spanish-speaking president.
Julio Frenk is a fourth-generation physician and a former Federal Secretary of Health of Mexico. He has served as Dean of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Director-General of the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico, and a senior fellow at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Julio Frenk served as the Minister of Health of Mexico from 2000 to 2006. There he pursued an ambitious agenda to reform the nation’s health system and introduced a program of comprehensive universal coverage, known as Seguro Popular, which expanded access to health care for more than 55 million previously uninsured Mexicans.
Julio Frenk is a renowned scholar and academic who served as the Minister of Health of Mexico and the Dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is the founding chair of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the author of several books and articles on health policy and education.
