Robert L. Freedman (born July 27, 1957) is an American screenwriter and dramatist. He is best known for his teleplays for Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) and Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows (2001), and for his Tony-winning book and lyrics of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder (2014).
Robert L. Freedman’s writing career has been an eclectic one, ranging from drama to comedy to musicals. He won the Writers Guild Award for his HBO film A Deadly Secret, and his acclaimed CBS film What Love Sees won the Silver Plaque at the Chicago International Television Festival.
A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is a musical comedy with music by Steven Lutvak, lyrics by Lutvak and Robert L. Freedman, and a book by Freedman. It is based on the 1907 fictional novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman.
